Take a piece of chalk and write the name of the person you want to speak to above a door closed door. This should be the spirit’s β€œtrue name” or the name they would most identify with, be it a legal name, a form of religious name, a craft name or a nickname. Knock on the door three times, saying:

I conjure you, (spirit’s name).
I ask you to speak with me.
I bless you and bring you close,
If you desire to come.

Take a moment to lay out in plain speech what you want to talk to the spirit about (for example, if you have questions, if you want to ask a favor, or if you simple want to remember them). When you feel ready, open the door and sit in front of it. Say what you need to the spirit, give them offerings, ask for messages, etc. Once you feel that the working is over, thank the spirit for their time and close the conversation, saying: I bless you and send you on your way with thanks. Stand up. Close the door. Remove the spirit’s name from the doorframe.
