a note about the hagbook
A Black Book—sometimes called a grimoire—is a book of magic, traditionally used to record spells, rites, correspondences, and workings. The Hagbook serves as the Black Book of Hagstone Witchery.
This curated collection includes a sampling ritual components, magical rites, magic theory, and spellcraft drawn from the foundations of the Hagstone Tradition. While inspired by the lived practice and teaching materials of the tradition’s founder, the contents are designed for adaptability rather than replication. Personal gnosis, unique spirit contacts, private tools, and ritual frameworks have been intentionally removed or replaced with accessible alternatives. What remains is a functional core of magical workings, offered not as a rulebook, but as a resource for curious witches.
Hagstone Witchery draws heavily from historical and folkloric research. Much of its magical framework is informed by European history, anthropology, literature, and gender studies (especially where they intersect with historical witchcraft). The source material that informs the tradition and its book of practices includes trial records, folklore collections, historical texts, museum archives, and the surviving writings of witches and cunning folk active between the 12th and 17th centuries in various parts of Europe.
The Hagbook is not a map or a prescription of the “right way” to be a witch. Rather, it is part of a framework of practical traditional witchcraft meant to inspire, inform, and support others in following the Hagstone Path or in building practices of their own. Take what serves you, adapt what speaks to you, and leave the rest.
