Magical workings within a ritual can come in many forms: spellcasting, divination, spirit communication, devotional offerings, and etc. Any of these can be incorporated into a ritual structure, though some (such as blessings, protections, manifestations, or seasonal rites) are more often framed within a ritual setting than others. The ritual framework can be useful to aid in focus, guide the flow of energy, and create a suitable atmosphere for the magical working.

In practice, the boundaries between raising energy, performing the working, and releasing power often blur. These actions may not appear as separate steps when the working is actually performed. Chanting, movement, drumming, dance, breathwork, or focused visualization during the working itself may naturally raise and direct energy, making the act of casting a spell inseparable from the process of power building.

A final word spoken with conviction, a deliberate gesture, or the placement of an offering can both complete the working and release the energy raised. Though ritual outlines (including the one presented this Black Book) may present these as distinct parts, in lived practice, they often flow together with one element leading into the next.
